Flavie Labrosse
My practice focuses on the ambivalence of hyper-feminine popular culture in which I’ve been immersed since my birth in 2000.
I question certain aspects of this culture by reclaiming them to make them more subversive.
I also evoke different forms of grief with a touch of irony, particularly through nostalgia and the escape from childhood.
I use a kitsch aesthetic characterized by cheap decorative elements.
Through sculpture, installation, or rugs, I reflect aesthetic choices rooted in my own experience and sexual identity, drawing on a variety of aesthetic codes: pink color, religious iconography, embroidery, fabrics, beads…
I reflect on the private sphere and the reactivation of practices traditionally attributed to women.
I enjoy making things with my hands and working with wool and fabric to express the comfort of memory.
