Shibai Tang

Born in China and raised in Dubai. My practice lies at the intersection of sculpture, installation, electronics, robotics and digital technologies.

Through devices that I design and build, I explore how technologies shape our perception, our memory and our relationship to the world. I am interested in systems based on loop mechanisms leading to hesitations and malfunctions that ultimately reorganise themselves. I thus create environments where control and uncertainty, presence and distance, signal and noise meet.

Rather than directly representing reality, I seek to make certain contemporary conditions perceptible, such as information overload, mediated perceptions, feedback loops and the emotional distance produced by the incessant circulation of images and data.
