Hsin-Yu Tai

« Hsin-Yu draws inspiration from interpersonal relationships and the power structures of everyday life. She observes the psychological tensions between individuals, as well as the power relations that are constructed between the individual and society.

Her work takes the form of interactive sculptures, designed to be manipulated by the body. Their organic and ambiguous forms bear imprints of the body that suggest gestures of interaction. She develops performance within them, mainly through collaborative games, and invites participants to experience the constraints between body, psyche and the power of the device.

When her sculptures are activated, complicity, discomfort, fatigue, compromise or domination emerge. Her project also has a ritual dimension, offering a possibility of repositioning oneself in relation to pre-existing value frameworks. »
