Matilda-Luz Vedel
I develop a practice centred on an approach that is both emotional and material in painting. In my view, painting is neither an image nor a fixed object, but the possibility of another mode of attention enabling a space of encounter. I engage in a direct relationship with matter, its textures, its resistances, which I do not seek to constrain but rather to accompany.
My work is built through an attentiveness to phenomena of emergence : forms, traces and accidents emerging through a process that is both slow and playful. Each painting or object is conceived as an autonomous presence whose meaning remains in the making. The starting points are varied : forms drawn from domestic space, vernacular motifs, the plasticity of language or anecdotes drawn from dreams. The idea is always to honour an intuited force, to follow through on an intuition concerning the power of a form, an image, a word.
