Martin Maffei

My work is essentially centred on the principle of repurposing in order to address subjects such as balance, the useless gesture, the body as a performative tool.

My creative process involves reclaiming materials/objects found in the city and intense physical performance, with an evident and pronounced attraction to idiocy, the grotesque and the absurd.

I experiment in my productions, my objects and my artistic situations, with the dichotomy between the «useless » expenditure of energy and the economy of time. I am interested in revaluing specific actions, objects and temporalities. Thus, « wasting time», «saving time», «killing time»… are expressions, and, beyond that, concepts whose transposition into art interests me.
