Conference on friendly AI

Morgane Baffier
CONFERENCE
17AVR.25
18H · Amphithéâtre de l'ENSAD Dijon

This conference attempts to establish the links between friends and AI (artificial intelligence). At a time when AI girlfriends are proliferating on the internet, the question arises: will our friends soon be replaced by AI? Without making any judgments, I try to understand how we have come to be friends with machines and what future this implies.

The speaker

Morgane Baffier is an artist and lecturer whose last name derives from the old Occitan word ‘bafa,’ meaning ‘fraud,’ and this information may be important to understand her work. Using graphs, fabricated images, and videos from the Internet, she develops all kinds of metaphysical theories and reflections, pushing them to the point of absurdity. In a desire to deconstruct knowledge, she appropriates the codes used in businesses, media, and intellectual spheres, and with finesse and humor, she mocks the power systems and authority statuses that condition access to speech.

Born in 1997, Morgane Baffier lives and works in Paris. A graduate of ENSAPC in 2020, her work has since been exhibited at the 66th Salon de Montrouge, Paris (2022), the Théâtre des Expositions des Beaux-Arts de Paris (2023), the Biennale de Mulhouse (2021), and La Graineterie in Houilles in 2022 for her first solo show. She won the Marfa Prize in 2023 and the MAD Prize in 2022. Her lectures have been presented at performance festivals such as the Biennale Nemo in Gentilly (2021) and Les Urbaines in Lausanne (2023), and in several art schools in France (Paris, Arles, Nantes, Limoges, Rouen…). The artist has benefited from several research residencies at Fieldwork Marfa (USA), the Maison des Arts de Malakoff, the Université Condorcet, the Abbaye de Maubuisson, the Beaux-Arts de Limoges, and the AWARE association.
