Realife 1: Space as Practice
This talk will be an opportunity for Haydée Marin & Camille Besson to share insights into their artistic paths, their collaborative duo practice, and the creation of Café des Glaces, an independent art space they founded in 2021 in Tonnerre, France.

“Taking their current exhibition Realife 1 as a point of departure, they will discuss how their work intertwines visual creation, architectural transformation, curatorial gestures, and a strong engagement with place.
Working as a duo allows them to rethink artistic production through dialogue, negotiation, shared authorship and co-construction.
They will also address the concrete realities of establishing themselves in a rural context: collective dynamics, long-term temporalities, volunteer work, renovation efforts, and the overlapping of living and exhibiting spaces.
Café des Glaces thus becomes a site of ongoing experimentation, where daily life, creation and the running of a space become inseparable elements of a continually evolving practice.”
Haydée Marin & Camille Besson are invited by Vanessa Desclaux.
The speakers
Haydée Marin & Camille Besson (born in France in 1990)
They live between Paris and Tonnerre and are both graduates of HEAD – Geneva, Switzerland. They co-founded Café des Glaces, an artist-run space in Tonnerre, where they develop a multidisciplinary practice at the intersection of architecture, design, painting, and scenography.
Their approach also manifests through exhibitions in which curatorial work extends their artistic thinking, making space and its arrangement a medium in its own right.
Before working together, they each developed their individual practices and exhibited solo in various venues across France — including Les Tanneries (2020), High Art (2020), FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (2019), Villa Belleville (2019), Gisele (2019), Fondation Ricard (2018) — and in Europe: Palazzina, Basel (2020), Forgo, Berlin (2019), Quark, Geneva (2015, 2019), Smallville, Neuchâtel (2018), Circuit, Lausanne (2016), and LiveInYourHead, Geneva (2015).
Their first duo presentation took place in September 2023 at Systema (Marseille, Palais des Arts).
