Following three years of collaboration on the Dijon-Mainz-Valencia travelling
workshop, ENSAD Dijon and Hochschule Mainz meet again for the workshop
A braided border, which took place at ENSAD Dijon from October 21 to 24,
2025. The workshop was conducted by artist Stéphanie Buttier,
in collaboration with Leïla Toussaint (ENSAD Dijon) and Iris Fäth
(Hochschule Mainz).
“Part-sculpture, part-building, A braided border pursues a political and artistic endeavour. A work of art that resonates with our time and current events; the creation of an architectural and landscape composition inside ENSAD Dijon. A four-day workshop will join students from both schools.
4 days to create something larger than ourselves.
4 days to work with our hands and discover a new material: wicker.
4 days to create together a line, a limit, a demarcation and to interrogate current events.
A physical experience where our creations will result from the natural shapes of the material we’re working with. Team work, construction work.”
— Stéphanie Buttier
While discussing the notion and meaning of borders within Europe, 10 ENSAD students and 10 Hochschule Mainz students have learned wickerwork techniques and created a construction halfway between architecture and sculpture, representing the bridge between our countries and cultures.
